Lubricating Mechanism and Function of Fischer Tropsch Wax

Ⅰ. Lubrication mechanism of Fischer tropsch wax


Fischer tropsch wax has a microcrystalline structure. Its relative molecular mass is between 500-1000 and its melting point is 100~110℃. It is water-white, hard and oil-free.


Compared with petroleum based wax, Fischer tropsch wax has a lower branching degree, higher efficiency of delayed plasticization and torque reduction, especially suitable for extruded pipes, profiles and injection-molded pipe fittings.


At the same time, Fischer tropsch wax has more excellent dielectric constant, electrical resistance and electrical breakdown strength. It is especially suitable as a lubricant for wire and cable covering products.


Fischer tropsch wax uses in PVC products and can be mainly used as internal and external lubricants in PVC products. The main feature of fischer tropsch wax is interfacial lubrication. During the processing, the external lubricant can easily migrate to the surface of the product or the interface between the melt and the processing machine, where the molecular orientation is arranged and the molecular layer of the lubricant is formed by physical adsorption.


Internal lubricants can be incorporated into the polymer molecular chains to reduce internal friction, reduce melt viscosity, increase the melting rate of plastics and improve plasticizing properties.


Ⅱ. Lubricating effect of fischer tropsch wax


The lubricating effect of Fischer tropsch wax improves product quality.


1. Improve the mechanical properties of PVC plastic products


The mechanical properties (strength, hardness, toughness) of PVC plastic products only reach the optimum value at a certain degree of plasticization. PVC lubricants can not only slow down the heating rate of materials through external lubrication to inhibit plasticization, but also weaken the interaction between PVC molecules through internal lubrication to promote plasticization. Therefore, through the rational use of lubricants, the mechanical properties of PVC products can be optimized.


2. Improve the surface quality of products


The use of lubricants can effectively improve the surface quality of PVC products. This is because melt fracture is the main cause of surface problems such as smoothness and poor gloss of polymer products, and the rational use of lubricants can eliminate PVC melt fracture.


3. Improve the smoothness of the surface of the product


For plastic products with large specific surface area, surface adhesion often brings many difficulties to their production and application. PVC lubricant can reduce the interaction force between two adjacent surfaces through external lubrication and the lubricating effect of ft wax can improve the surface smoothness of the product. This is very important for PVC flexible film processing and application.


4. Endow the product with anti-fog and anti-static properties


PVC lubricant can increase the polarity of the surface of the product and reduce its surface resistivity, so it can give the product certain anti-fog and anti-static properties.


Because Fischer tropsch wax has the characteristics of small molecular weight, low melt viscosity, high melting point and narrow melting range, it can achieve the same lubricating effect with less dosage compared with PE wax.


It reduces the negative impact of lubricants on the physical and mechanical properties of products. And it has the irreplaceable advantages of PE wax in terms of internal and external lubrication balance adjustment.
